Continuing with this weeks installment of Music That Inspires You, where I will be sharing five songs / artists that give me inspiration, or just the burning sensation on your bum.
Let’s kick it off!
1. Foster the People
Foster the People. . .I’ll be honest, I have not listened to a whole lot of their material—mainly this particular song. I like it though. So much, that I was inspired by it, and wrote out a short story. Repetitive. Simple. It’s good.
2. Say Hi
Among with a few others, like Handsome Furs, Jenny Lewis, Cage the Elephant, and well. . .a slew of other musicians, I had found Say Hi on a website / blog some years back [sadly, it’s no longer up].
I like their sound. Straight up. It’s a good mash of everything. Almost everything. . .but a piano. . .and a kitchen sink.
3. Handsome Furs
Although they’re not around anymore, Handsome Furs had some ballin’ sound, and songs. This particular one was one I had come across along with my other “skinny dipping” artists. I say skinny dipping, because I had no idea who they were, had never heard them, said fuck it, and proceeded to check them all out.
4. Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins
This is a good one. . . Wanna know why? OK, well it’s a cover. But that’s not the part. Still wanna know? Well, I’m going to tell you anyway! You have Jenny Lewis [given, she also backed for Postal Service], Ben Gibbard [Postal Service, Death Cab for Cutie], M. Ward [Himself, and Monsters of Folk], and Conor Oberst [Bright Eyes, Monsters of Folk]!
That’s a hell of appearances there. Right? Her album, Rabbit Fur Coat, is great on its own, besides all the guest appearances. I recommend it. FOR GREAT LISTENING!
5. Cage the Elephant
Ah, Cage the Elephant. I remember hearing them the first time [this song was more raw], and I was like, “This is awesome. I hope these guys go far.”
Next thing I know, they’re an opening track for Borderlands. I laughed a little bit.
It’s a good, tried and true track, and honestly, they’re a good bunch of people jammin’.
That wraps it up for this edition of Music That Inspires You. Check back Wednesday for more! Until next time! Be sure to wipe your bum, and wash your hands.
