What a week. It’s been a long one alright—it’s been kicking and screaming, tugging at you like an incessant little bugger saying “I’M STILL HERE! LOOK AT ME! LOOK. AT. ME!” and then you just want to curl up and cry. . .or eat ice cream. I jest, it’s been an alright week, kind of, sort of. . .no it’s been a bad one: we lost Bowie. . .and Rickman. We’re fucked.
So, while the shit shenanigans begin, we’re gonna grab this Friday by the hair and show ’em what’s up.
Beck is a pretty cool cat, even though not a lot of folks I know would agree. I like him, his music, and yeah, he’s a Scientologist, but whatever. . .there are worse things out there. Besides, it’s about the music! This tune was one of those instant catchy songs that bore itself into my head and played. . .and played. It’s a thing of beauty, and thus, why it’s listed here.
Blink-182’s been around for quite awhile now, eh? What’s My Age Again? All The Small Things, and of course, one of my favorites. . .Adam’s Song. They’ve got an impressive catalog now, and some pretty good side band projects.
I think Adam’s Song is pretty much anyone’s anthem for their teen years [definitely was for me, for reasons]. I Miss You was a different anthem to a different piece of my own puzzle. It’s a beautiful song that mixes a lot of wonderful instruments, and shows a different side to the guys. Unfortunately, DeLonge is no longer with the band, but hopefully they all remember to play the music. . .not be a slave to it.
3. The Darkness
Ah yes. . .The Darkness! I can’t explain all the things. . .I mean, I can’t say exactly say how awesome it was hearing them play for the first time, but I definitely was hooked on these guys. It’s a great song, and them notes!
Another fun fact: I can totally nail singing this. This and A-ha’s Take on Me.
Gorillaz has been a pretty solid group through the years. . .and a pretty dominating one. They’re tunes are catchy as hell, their videos are interesting, and they’re constantly evolving. It’s a good group with plenty of good albums and songs. Most of which you can’t help but tap to the beat, sing along to, or grab your sunshine in a bag. . .I mean. . .I’ll be back.
Seriously though, this is a great song. Now. . .nail the rap! Do it.
5. The Killers
The Killers. . .man. . . Honestly, this was at a pretty solid point in my life where I had a lot of personal things going on, and it gave me a lot of help with coping, being persistent, and severing ties with some folks. It’s catchy, it’s music to your ears [ha!], and you just feel good. I suppose results may [will / do] vary, but it’s been a good pick me up for years. . .and for the years to come. All that nostalgia.
That wraps it up for this edition of Music That Inspires You. Check back next week for more. Until next time!
